Interesting thrift store find , but what is it?

I couldn't pass up this little wooden item for 25 cents. I have no idea what it is though. My husband thought maybe a candle holder that can hold any size candle; just turn the handle to adjust tension on the candle. Sounds good, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

Happy Sunday... That little gadget would be a nut cracker... You place the nut to be shelled in the cup and twist the handle to crack it... my hubby makes them similar to that.. Blessings,

Lucky you, what an interesting find. It's a nut cracker for sure. I googled antique nut crackers images and saw several with the same screwed handle. One was even carved fancy. JB
